A melting pot of ideas for counselors across the world
It’s been a few days since we wrapped up in Bengaluru, and the energy, laughter, and conversations are still buzzing. Two days, countless conversations, and yes — enough coffee to fuel a small country. The g2 Experience 2025 once again proved why it’s not “just another conference.” It’s our little ecosystem — equal parts reunion, brain-workout, and therapy session — where counselors, educators, and partners come together to pause, recharge, and remind ourselves why we love this work. Many of you reading this were with us (and probably still recovering from the non-stop sessions!). But for those who couldn’t, here’s your sneak peek — because the whole point of g2 is to make sure no counselor feels left out of the conversations shaping our field.
You know that moment when a new student walks into your office — wide-eyed, hopeful, maybe a little nervous — and you’re bracing yourself for anything from “Can you change my timetable?” to “So… how do I get into Oxford?” First meetings are magic. They set the tone for the whole counselor–student relationship. They can also be wildly unpredictable.
As the new academic year rolls in, students across the world are getting ready for the exciting rollercoaster ride called college. While students are dreaming of freedom, late-night study sessions, and pizza at 2 a.m., many don’t realize the skills they need to actually survive and thrive once they arrive. Drawing from my student Srijana’s experience—a junior at UC Berkeley—here are five essential lessons counselors can help students master, while they are still in high school, all while keeping it fun.
